Last night I came home to my little hystrix doing the curl of death. I immediately went into panic mode, set up a qt tank using the original tank water, media from the original tank, and put in an air stone. I then moved the little guy over, never removing him from water. After I got him moved I tested my water to see if that was the problem. The params were Ammonia 0ppm, Nitrites 0ppm, and Nitrates 5-10ppm. He had a little pink on his underside, possibly from irritation from the sand, but if it weren't poor water conditions, what would cause the ray to go into the curls?

He has been in the tanks for a couple of weeks, so i don't think it was ammonia burn from acclimation, it may be stress, but I will post some pictures later. In the few minutes that I had to inspect him this morning before I had to leave for class, there seems to be a small cut on his "flippers". Are rays immune to other rays "venom"? Or could he have possibly got cut by my retic and passed that way?

Unfortunately he passed, i found a pretty severe laceration between the flippers when looking him over after. It looked like a clean slice and I have no clue what would have caused it. The only thing I could think of is one of the barbs on the side of the mouth of one of my clown loaches but the ray is no where near large enough to try and take one of them down and there are no sharp rocks or such in the tank
