Bummer. If it was the barb from a clown loach, it may have happend at night.
 
i wouldn't think that a clown loach subocular spine would slice a long non jagged laceration. they are meant for stabbing, not slicing. i would look more into an ornament/decor, sharp driftwood, sharp rock/gravel, or something else that the ray came into contact with, if it was a laceration.
 
the only object in the tank are very rounded pieces of driftwood and sand, so I have no clue what may have caused it other than the spines of another fish, but I will search around
