We never know when 'good bye' is forever.
I will always regard John as one of my closest friends. We worked together in the early 90's at a tropical fish importer and distributor. He loved big brown cichlids as much as I did. Each day at work was peppered with John's quick and witty humor. I can still hear him saying "listen, I've forgotten more about fish than you'll ever know."
Hallelujah my brother.
While John could always make us laugh with his never ending personal
repertoire of hilarious zingers, he was a very intelligent fish geek! John
was an avid fan of cinema, literature, and music.
Back then, Seinfeld was en vogue and we'd recite skits on Friday morning
that appeared on the previous Thursday evening's 'new' episode. John could do a funnier Kramer than Kramer himself!
John and his lovely 'never aged a day in 15 years' wife, Nancy, blessed my wife, Kate, and myself by attending our wedding in September of 2007.
The photo appearing in this tribute article was taken that day. How could Nancy not beam with delight?! She's with one incredible guy. Look at John and listen closely. I bet he's about to make another interesting
observation that will undoubtably be delivered in his beloved, trademark
humor.
In recent years, he and his older son Johnny would make the long drive from their Long Island residence to my fish facility and home to visit and talk fish. I'll forever be waiting for that next visit when they both walk
through the door.
