I went into work today (working in a fish store), and we had about 5 rays in 2 differnt tanks. but today we only had one really badly beaten motoro left. when i asked what happend my boss said that they beat up on each other, and the 3 laticerops died. I was keeping an eye on them hoping I could get one later on down the road. Sucks cuz they are very beautiful fish.

So this brings me to a question, seeing I have not taken care of rays as of yet. How agressive are sting rays? And can you keep more then one in a large enough tank (what size are we talking)? and last but not least how are tiger rays in regards to personality and care, i was told they are very hardy?

sorry to here that. i never new they where so aggressive

they can get nippy but at smaller sizes potamotrygons can be pretty much be mixed together... There are some people that will warn against mixing aggressive rays ( motoro , leos ) against "sensitive" rays ( tigers, flowers ) as there have been reports of bigger rays bullying the smaller more sensitive ones, but from majority of the ray owners that i know, from what ive read and from my own experience, i havent had major issues with compatibility.

Tigers are said to be "sensitive" They are more demanding of water quality than say a motoro or leo as mine tends to not move a lot if the water is not up to spec but i still maintain the belief the difference between a motoro and a tiger as far as husbandry is the same. Clean , perfect water, a meaty protein-rich diet and a stress free environment.

The 2 motoro's were in the same tank, but i believe there was a mix of letcerops in the other tank. The tank really isn't big enough to house them for any great amount of time and im wondering if that is what may have done them all in.

The sole serviver is torn on his back, I just couldnt figure out how it would have recieved such brutal blows. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the loss for rays are magnificent fish IMO. In keeping rays, you need to have atleast 3' in width. Cuz rays grow upto 2' in diameter.

torn on his back?

Is there any sharp objects like fake driftwood decor?

And uh.. Did they have heaters in their tanks that were exposed? They could of burn't that crap out of themselves and your novice fishkeeper of a boss might not know the difference between burns and cuts.
