Sad day for the rays in my store..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There was nothing in the tank, except the rays, and a power head with no sharp corners, and the tank was big enough for them to move around a bit and not be too crowded probley around (tank size) 24"wx18D and they were in and around 6-7' so they should have been fairly comfortable but im just curious what would have scraped the back up so much. To me its a bit of a mystery.

I do have to give my boss a lot of credit, he is extremely knowledgeable about the fish, esp the ones we carry in the store, but i dont believe he has kept any personaly. so logic would dictate that the other ray did injure the other but im not sure how. a ray has no teeth right?

Any heater?

Could of scraped themselves on that powerhead..

As 'extremely knowledgable' as your boss might be, he should know better than to stick stingrays, especially a few of them, in such a tiny tank. Stingrays are not like Guppies, Neons, or any other fish that you can just stuff into a tiny aquarium. Sounds like your boss might be fish smart in some categories, but Stingrays are definately something he should do some reading up on.. ANY bit of info would say that a 24x18" tank would be asking for death with a stingray.. Is he one of those guys who knows so much, he does not care to hear the opinions or education of another?

I could go on and on about fish ethics, ignorance, mis-information and 'know-it-alls' but that is besides the point..not needed.

Rays have 'grinders' for teeth, but at that small size it would be hard for them to put a scrape on their back.. Is there an opening that the rays could of tried to climb out of, and possibly injured themselves in the process?

That sux :(

Sorry to hear...

From what you say i bet the rays were too small when imported and died through mistreatment and inexperience..Not form aggresion, not at that size any how
