Sad day today boys :(

Found my rtc dead with a jack dempsey in its mouth. Never thought a rtc can die while trying to eat a fish. I hear all these stories about rtc eating random objects and regurgitating them the next few days. Lost two fish in one night, yayy....

At first, my JD already had torn fins so I'm guessing the RTC attacked it cuz it smelled the blood/flesh from it. Reasoning is i have smaller fish like pictus/pleco/firemouth and he didn't harass them. Also, i got other fish the same size as the JD being attacked and he doesn't harass them. So he tried consuming the JD whole, but kept spitting it out trying different ways to get it in. I went to sleep thinking the RTC would have eaten it by the time I woke up. Sure enough, he died while trying.

Thats a bummer, My rtc tried to eat one of my 7 inch plecos and I had to pull it out of his mouth because he started struggleing to eat it. He sat with 4 inches of it hanging out of his mouth for about 2 hours and swam onto his back.

but i never thought a RTC can die while eating a fish? I thought they would always just spit it out and break it up into pieces.

I guess this is a nice lesson learned from your stupidity and carelessness. Too bad the fish had to die.

Why didn't you just take out the JD before the RTC did any more damage?

Sorry about the loss I had a rtc eat a midas. he almost choked but he got it down

The fins of the JD may have snaged up on the rtc's mouth thats what i got nervous when mine ate the pleco it was hard to get the pleco out of his mouth because of the spines on it. I would guess something similler happened.

JD was already torn and swimming awkward when I came home from work. He didn't look like he was gonna make it anyway. Didn't care so much for the JD because I got him in bad condition anyway. I'm just shocked that a rtc died
