i have fish jump(i think they did) and never found a trace of them some tanks where completely sealed tops too just adds to the fun of the hobby sucks for your loss though

Thanks Nic, it does suck. From what I've seen, it's not easy getting a 3.5"er like I got that ate so well and never hid. The top isn't even close to completely sealed, so I tend to think he did jump. I'd just like to find him to solve the mystery at this point.

Maybe a rat/mouse drag him in his den and ate it?

Nah, we don't have any of those in our apartment. My wife would lose her mind :nilly: if that was even a remote possibility.

My only thoughts are, do you have any other pets? birds? cat? dog? they might have drug it away...check heat/air ducts/registers. inside decor (had mine do that as well, and got stuck in there for like 2 days before I finally found em, and had to cut it open)...
call em houdini!

i once had a baby tiger shovelnose cat dissapear for a several months, then it appeared out from under some decor and I was happy! but only for a day, only to find him dissapear again... for forever the next time :0(

i had a gar dissapear on me for a couple of days. i searched and searched and evenutaly found him on the floor next to the tank. i have no idea how he could have passed my searching but have to be observant becuase fish do become somewhat smaller as they dry and a 3.5" clown would be prety thin. i would double check under the stand. but i would also bank on the oscar. (stupid fish)

He had maybe made it up to about 4" and no, no other pets. Being in an apartment, we're not allowed to have too much pet-wise. I'm 99.99% sure it was the Oscar, it's just that without seeing him eat it, it really does seem like it would be a magic trick. I've had a lot of LARGE constrictors over the years and been impressed with what they could swallow, but my O is only really just starting to get any real size to him - maybe 7". With the Clown being about 4", it would be possible but I would expect to see more physical evidence of the "crime".
Like I said, I've seen him swimming around with a tail hanging out of his mouth more than once, looking all dopey and clueless. It's just a little bit funny, but more infuriating...
I know it's what they do, but still...
