SAD DAY!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry for the lost man. I love CKs and hate to hear about one dying. I think it might have been the Oscar. It could've tore it to pieces and gulped it down.

Not a pretty picture, but I'm afraid you may be right. I work with a girl that wants to setup another tank and I may be giving her the Oscar so I don't have to repeat this little episode in the future.

I have been having the opposite kind of day as you..since this was the first time my clown knife ate pelleted food and not a guppy i was extremely happy.. I am sorry for your loss.. i can see why this fish would get you attached to him, they have a lot of personality.. I have the dreaded feeling your Oscar ate him.. Oscar can be so docile but they are HUGE eaters too.. Hope you find out what happened. Hope you get another one.

Thanks Liz, I REALLY grew attached to that little guy in the few weeks I had him. On the plus side, that's AWESOME for you.
They really do have their own little personalities, and my little guy was just outgoing and a great eater from the day I brought him home. In Petsmarts tank, he just sat down in the corner and didn't move. He was in the tank with an African Brown Knife and I actually went home with the ABK, got home and realized that I just HAD to go back for that little CK.
I do want another one, but I just can't imagine him being as great as my first.
As long as I have my O, I won't put another small CK in with him, just in case he really was dinner. I would go with a larger one though.

I hope everything works out with yours and you should definitely try beef heart with vitamins. Mine took to it the very first time and he grew almost an inch in 3 weeks.
Enjoy yours, they're amazing fish.

Thanks,
Chuck

Nice to meet you Chuck.... I have mine in a 30 gallon by himself.. i may keep him by himself for a long time since i would be afraid of the same dreadful destiny .. most of my tanks are monsters. I will wait until he is really a good size.. yes the thing i really like about my CK is his outward personality, he never hides morning, noon or night.. if he hears me around he looks for me to give him a guppy.. but now it will be the pellets..and a guppy on rare occasion.. i will try the beef heart and soak in vitamins.. very good idea..I am sorry for your loss again.. i know how i would feel.. and have felt.. and it always seems to be the ones you really have a little extra attachment too.. ps. let us know when you get a new guy... Liz

And nice to meet you Liz.
Thank you for your kind words, very thoughtful.
That "little extra attachment" came quickly. I just loved how he came to the glass with all the others as soon as I got him, and it was so funny how bad their eyesight is. He couldn't find his food unless I dropped it RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.
As for the beef heart, you don't need to soak it in vitamins. You can buy the frozen cubes of beef heart (like mysis, bloodworms, etc.) with or without added vitamins. I opted for the vitamins for that healthful boost to his immune system since the younger ones are fairly sensitive fish.
I wish you all the best with yours! Enjoy him and post some pix when you get a chance. I have pix of my last O when I got him and it's so funny to look back and see how small and cute he was.
Good to see that you got yours off those nasty feeders! Too much chance of the introduction of disease unless you breed them yourself.
I'll post when I get a new one, but I have to find the "right one". ;)

Chuck

I didn't need to ask her, she was there the last Saturday morning when he was gone so she was as clueless as I was. Plus, she's actually VERY allergic to fish and can't even touch them.

Was yours a CK that your mom threw away?
