Sad news...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I noticed trace amounts of nitrite in the tank (.5). Maybe that had something to do with it. I did a 1/4 water change today. I'll do partial WCs daily until I see a difference.

My only guess is the tank wasn't 'fully' cycled. I used plants and substrate from my cycled tank and saw signs of nitrates with no nitrites after a while I guess I assumed it was cycled... Damn misleading test strips. Should keep doing daily WCs or should I put the fish in my other tank (29 gallon) for a while? I know how cycling works, and I feel like an idiot for this happeneing to me. Is there anything sold at Walmart (closest place that sells fish supplies) that has nitrifying bacteria in it?

I took gravel from my other COMPLETELY cycled tank (:D), and put it in filter bags, tied them up, and put them in my new tanks filter -- a custom bio-media ball, if you will... This should definately do the trick, right? There are two of them, right where the intake water comes up.

*hates sounding newbish*

The OTHER severum was lying on it's side not moving, not even trying to swim.I would nudge it with a net, and it would move, and then fall back on it's side...

I think the W/C I did must have did him in... He's now gone.

So... yeah... :(

Bad luck, and stupidity on my part.

Alright guys... I really don't know what to say.

Thanks for all your kind words.

I.. uh... woke up this morning, and turned on the lights, only to see me Severum-in-distress swimming around, care free. I watched it for a minute. IT WAS SWIMMING NORMAL. I kept watching it, she was out and about. I put food in, she ate it. Both of her fins appear to be normal. Her color has dimmmed down a bit too.

Needless to say, I am EXTREMELY happy I did not do anything drastic last night. I have absolutely no idea what was going on with her the past few days, but this morning, she is fine...

Like seriously, what the hell? :screwy:

I am VERY happy, though, obviously.:):headbang2:)
wow thats great news.. practice patience ..we all have our bad days... never rush to put a fish down... except when it is obvious... because many times they bounce back like this..
