I can appreciate dhardwick taking a stance against an entire thread if he things its the right thing to do, and of course we must police ourselves so the content on mfk can stand to criticism, but I read the links in the earlier post and it seems like theres an abundance of evidence and outcry from many sources about how this place treats their animals.

Ive been around long enough to know that if F1 posts something it isnt just fluff. Hopefully we can sort through all of this and really focus on whats important-the animal's health and safety. That should be our focus and the only goal and there is no reason we cant work together towards that end.

Well said Tom.

I shared a few beers with Dhardwick this afternoon and it turns out were not so different, I personally don't buy my fish from lfs so I guess I forgot that other people do, and in doing so I overlooked the fact that there aren't many lfs around these parts, good or bad people rely on these stores for there needs.

Online communication isn't the easiest and most straight forward way of getting points across, so the chat me and him had was a good one, I'm glad we were both mature enough to resolve our issues like men and move on, he is a good guy that appreciates animals and I can't blame anyone for that, I tend to get very passionate at times and I'm working on that.

The lfs on question corrected the problem in 2 ways, they dealt with the employee and the fish are separated, my work here is done and ill leave it at that.

To the Uncle Bills staff,

Please properly research the animals you purchase before throwing them into tanks, I understand you look at them from a sales/profit perspective, but us customers see them as pets! Thank you for dealing with the manner at hand, but ill still never shop there again.

Good job vet, someone had to point out their faults. Making it public like this clearly aided in its support and success. A huge thankyou to F1 for taking a stand for our pets health and care.

so there aren't humane societies in the states?

Thank you F1 and hopefully they learn from this opportunity and can ensure animals will at least be cared for to the best of their resources.

Of course there are humane societies in the states, but getting them to do anything proactively is impossible, and often all they can do is at best give fines for current or previous violations that they can find at the time of their arrival. This helps, but if the store sees public support exists to protect the animals they deal with, the lfs can then respond without need of legal recourse. Its a way of encouraging positive behavior instead of punishing negative behavior.

I hope Uncle Bills sees this as an opportunity. If they see enough people care about the condition and source of their animals, they may actually make improvements and increase transparency. Being a smaller chain this puts them in a pretty unique situation where they have more resources and publicity than lfs and better customer relationships than large box stores.

At any rate I'm glad things have come out to a positive resolution. Well done Alan.
