"Safe Feeder" method?

I wouldnt feed dead feeders that died "naturally" to my fish way to many disease parasites ect potentially... no sure way imo to guarantee 100% clean before feeding to your fish. personally never had luck xfering from live to dead the way you suggest. but theonly true Piscivores I own/d are my gar who took too pellets prettye asy compared to arms from what I understand. I would suggest chopping the head off and tossing it directly in the current.. or the fishline technique. saltwater dip may dissuade your Arm. all that salt its not use too isn't all going to just vanish, and parasites in particular won't die from a 3-5 minute dip ime, and doubt it kills all bacteria. Salt dips are usually used with epsom salts to relieve constipation in fish not usually successful for bacterial/fungal/parasite issues.

Just my 2cents. and if the Arm sub-form doesn't have any stickies/good info on converting to dead you might try reading the Gar one. Its pretty good info and might give you more ideas.

GL, very neat fish.

the salt dip will kill most bacteria and external parasites but wont necessarily kill internal parasites. I like the freeze method. If it can survive being frozen solid, good luck killing it.

Also, try to find a better feeder. Goldfish have a host of problems associated with them that goes far beyond the parasite risk. They are not very nutritious, they are high in fat, and high in thiaminase that will cause other health problems down the road. Just saying, there are plenty of easy to raise better alternatives

My favorite thing to do for feeders it to take a cast net down to the river and catch a couple dozen baby pumpkinseed sunfish about 1-2" long. They're very good for the fish and they have no thiaminase. If I can't get those, I like to use zebra danios instead of goldfish. They're more active than goldies and harder to catch, plus they can't possibly be as unhealthy. Ideally however, I get my fish onto pellets or chunks of filleted fresh fish.

thanks guys. I AM trying to get my armatus off feeders ASAP but it's so frustrating. That is why I what to feed my armatus "safe DEAD feeders" to it as a second step for it to eat dead food. I am way too chicken to kill a fish. NO way i'm doing it since I love fish.
So far my armatus is beginning to eat the feedrs that suddenly fall at the tank. Yesterday my armatus chewed at a small smelt piece for a split second. Is this a sign that it is getting interested in all kinds of food?

I am planning to starve my armatu for 5 days and try jigging smelt. Before, my armatus was WAY too chicken to approach the floating food. It's way better now.

YES! If it bit the smelt, don't feed it anything but the smelt. He knows it's food, he just prefers live. At this point you need to be more stubborn than he is!!! lol

All of my payara LOVE chunks of trout, btw. You can get a pound of cleaned trout at the store for about $3 here. I just cut it into pieces and make sure there's no really big bones in it. I cut it into strips about the size and shape of a goldfish, then do the fishing line trick. Both of my payara tear it up!

Ok i'll starve it until it'll eat smelt. Trout is preety expensive where i'm from lol. thanks

Yeah I can understand that lol. I don't like to buy the trout if I don't have to, I can go down to the spring and catch em for free lol

What size of smelt do you jig it with?? before, my armatus was very shy and It swam away when i tryed to jig it. I heard from my supplier to just cut up 1/2 inch smelt steaks and put it in the water. As I said before my armatus just pounce at it and bit it for A SPLIT SECOND and swam away. That was after when i fed it 2 feeders yesterday.
