Safe water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Whether you can safely add the water directly from your tap without aging it for at least 24 hours is going to depend on it's quality. You should test your tap water for ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, PH, KH & GH to know where you stand first. This way you will also know if your PH will be stable (crushed coral (increase ph) or peat moss (lower ph)) can make a difference as well.

Never just assume your tap water is safe to add directly to your tank without having all information on hand.

To the OP - if you feel the need to ask this question, I would strongly recommend that you read my comments in the following past discussion on this topic.

Even small amounts of chlorine/chloramine residuals can have a negative effect on the long term health of your fish.

Thanks for that link RD. I was looking for it before but couldn't find it on my phone.

Chloramine is worse than chlorine. To miguel. Some municipalities in the states go overboard with chemicals in our water. I personally have a well, but the water in the city tastes like a swimming pool to me.
