Safe water temperatures and unsafe temperatures

Well my tank is sitting at 87 right now because of it being in the garage. I'm in Canada as well and it was 31 degrees today
 
Why in the garage? I have a hard time justifying a tank in a spare bedroom for the pups as no one is in the room ever except for when I feed or do a water change. Couldn't imagine putting a tank in a garage. I know some people have nice garages but I still wouldn't spend any time in one unless maybe my full time job was working out of my garage.

A few reason but the main one being its 360g and that's a lot of weight and water when you don't own the place you live in.
