it kinda looks like the white birch we have over here so i wouldn't use it, it will mess up the water badly with sap and debris because the white birch over here break apart easily and being in water would make it worse.

let it soak in a rubbermaid trash can for awhile.... everyweek change out the water i did this before worked great
you should not use that wood at all. you should ditch the wood and go to you local river or lake and get wood thats already sunken in the water from the bottom of the river or lake
