im getting a new tank today 74 x 20 x 28. it is going to replace my 75. do think it would ok if i just put the filter from my 75 on the new tank and then i would be cycled? see sig for stocking. im also going to add a sump made out of a rubbermaid.

You should also add the water from your old tank into the new tank for a quick cycle. This way your BB will have something to feed off.

if you add the water and the filter, it should do the job, but if you add your substrate it would be even better. Just keep an eye on your water params.

ok. ill try adding some water. the problem is the new tank is going into the same spot as the old. so what have to do is put the fish in a rubbermain as a holding pen then put them in the new tank

putting them in the tub temporarily is no problem as long as it's not like all day or anything. just keep an eye on the ammonia for a while to make sure there aren't any spikes

i was going to run my filter on tube while i was setting up the new tank

are you moving your substrate? If you were planning on new substrate, you could possibly buy the really big media bags from your lfs and put the old substrate in those and then you could still put it in the tank, that would help wonders...

and it is a wonderful idea to run your filter on the rubbermaid, that will help keep the bb from dying off.

If you could just move 20-30% (15-23 gallons) of your old water over that would be just fine, it's be like just doing a huge water change on your old tank, just try to move as much of it over as possible, move the water in the rubbermaid, and fill up any 5 gallon buckets that you can.
