Sailfin Pleco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
and i just noticed; the "sail" on my goldspot seems to be ripped up a little but any idea what's going on? is it some kind of disease?
or did the big cichlids that used to be in the tank get him?

or did my kribensis get him? they're both always in the cave, and the kribensis is pretty aggresive towards the other one, so it it possible the kribensis attacked the pleco?

hey thanks for the advice, but would a 6" goldspot stay cool with a baby sailfin?

Should be OK. You can get problems if you introduce two large plecos to each other. Large and small dont seem to have a problem, the little one isn't seen as competition so gets ignored. By the time the new one grows they are used to each other and are unlikely to fight.
I have a 4" common in with my 6-8" goldspots, they occasionaly push and shove, but no real fighting.

Could have been from fighting, or maybe got ripped while he was being moved. Mine get that ocasionaly when they fight. It will heal up quickly (maybe a week) as long as the fish and water are healthy.

I dont think a goldspot will be bothered by a kribensis, my kribs keep out of the plecs way :D

who do your pleco fight with? other plecos?
you got any pics of your goldspot?

*off-topic
so the kribensis are only aggresive towards each other?

Mosly amongst themselves, they may occasionally chase another fish if they are in a bad mood, but they wont catch a kribensis or bala shark :grinno:
Mine live quite happily together now, but the big one still gives the smaller one a swat occasionally, just to let them know who is boss.

so the kribensis are only aggresive towards each other?

Kirbensis are pretty peacefull for a cichlid, they may squabble amongst them selves, or nibble on a guppy occasionally, but they are 'mostly harmless'.

you got any pics of your goldspot?

Yup.

My Gibby (Sailfin)

2 Goldspots and a small Common (not fighting) + a bonus kribensis at the back ;)

who-ho!! nice!!
nice tail on yours!!! will mine do that too? i guess i don't need a sailfin anymore then.lol

how big are they and how much(of what) do they eat? just to compare with mine and see if mine is doing fine.

oh and is the outside of cucumbers too hard for plecos, you told me it's normal but?? other people on youtube told me they leave a ring as well
he seems to not finish the whole inside of it either...some of the edges are still on the "ring"
i'm trying carrots tonight. should i peel the outer film?

I dont bother peeling the carrots, just wash them, and slice them. Also they will eat the outsides of cuc, but they are obviously not there favourite part!

Hi I got a pleco along with my new tank. the pleco is around 6"+.
but now he is not sailing in my tank.

its the same tank, it's just we took all the decorations and rocks out.(was a cichlid tank)
when i saw the pleco back at their house, it was "sailing" under the rock.

and will i ever be able to see him swim? and can he scratch the acrylic walls?

Didn't you already ask that question elsewhere JEAE21?

Lol, I am pretty sure he did.

They both ask the exact same type of questions-guessing they are the same person.
