Hi everyone,

This is my first post so forgive me if I break some protocol. I am new to the hobby, less than a year.

My local Petco has had the sickest fish I have ever seen, a Sailfin Tang. I have watched him regress for about a week now. Tonight while talking to the salesperson about how horrible he looked, I was offered the fish for a $5 donation to whatever charity they promote there. I accepted the offer, came home and acclimated him to my back up tank, that I never use. He looks so bad, I did not even want him in my QT, so he is in a seldom used tank. Because of that I do not have water parameters for you, but he is already looking better.
I will upload pics. He has fin rot and a pop eye that has a small bubble that is inflating and deflating every few seconds. It is pretty nasty.
I will test this water and post the parameters, but I wanted to get this question posted as soon as I could. Any suggestions?

This Petco is notorious for having very sick looking and dead fish in their tanks. I have had horrible luck with fish from them, and I do not buy any live stock from them anymore. I have had 3 or 4 damsels with pop eye from there among numerous other problems.

Why are retail establishments allowed to abuse animals like this??? My local petco is a mess also!! Looks like fish is in good hands but not sure whats up with the eye!!

Petco should not sell live animals let alone marines that take very specific parameters. I can live with Petsmart but Petco is just garbage almost as bad as Walmart selling fish.

LOL yes I agree! I buy from petsmart when they have stuff like clown loaches half off! They are also smart enough not to mess with salt water!!!

Here is some info from http://www.chucksaddiction.com/ ID page.

Pop Eye /Cloudy Eye. A very obvious swelling and / or cloudiness of the eyes, this is most often caused by poor water quality or physical damage or abrasion to the eye of which secondary bacterial infections can take advantage of.
This is another gram negative bacteria responsible for this condition and can be treated in a quarantine tank with an appropriate anti-bacterial medication. As with all fish problems, stress is the leading cause of illness, usually water quality can be blamed. In good water quality, this condition most always disappears on it own without further treatment. For extreme cases, as shown in the photo, a medicated treatment would be advised.

Treatment per Dr. A.J. Meyer - Using a small container, place 4 liters of tank water and add 1 ml of a 10% solution of Baytril oral solution (enrofloxacin). Place the fish in for 60 minutes at a time once daily with an airstone and repeat for 5 consecutive days. The same water can be re-used each of the five days. This medication or solution should be available by prescription from your local Vet.

This doesnt seem to be an extream case though, so as long as your parms are good it should clear up on its own. He also seems to have the symptoms of early stage HLLE so make sure there is always nori in the tank for him to much on to prevent it from getting bad, IMO tanks with tanks should ALWAYS have a piece of nori in them, if it gets eaten, replace it right away. Thats the best way to keep healthy tangs :D.
