Sailfin Tang Rescued from Petco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it. I really want to save this fish. Here is updated information on the fish. He is not eating anything. I have offered him nori, frozen emerald entrees, and lettuce. He doesn't seem to have any interest in food.

In addition to that, he is facing downward at about a 45 degree angle, moving back and forth about an inch, over and over and over again.

I have administered an antibiotic and epson salts and the swelling in his eye has gone down dramatically, so he is looking much better.

Any ideas?

maybe try something like pods or other meaty foods? i know they rnt the best choice, but if hes not eating its better then nothing.

He is eating.
The swelling in his eye is almost all gone.
His behavior seems normal.

How long will it take for his fins and scales to look better?
Is he contagious? How long before I can consider moving him in with the rest of the family?

Fin/scale damage is likely HLLE may or may not recover, only thing you can do is keep him on a good varried diet of algeas with occational meaty items to keep him as healthy as possible. Oh and good water quality.

+1 to the above...I knew you would get this fish to pull through if only the water quality was kept right.

Glad to hear that he/she is on the mend.

As far as fin damage..not likely to ever be perfect. Tangs are notorious for this...one small nick on a fin, and it will most likely never be replaced.

Again, h2o quality, low stress, ideal environment...and of course a great diet. Selecon and other vitamin enhancers should be used on food...they will help a lot with the HLLE which depending on how long the fish had it should be completely reversible. GL.
