Sajica Cichlid -75 Gallon Set Up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow he’s looking brand new today. Turning into a beast.
He really is. It almost seems like he’s putting on size overnight. He’s becoming really interactive too. Comes right up to the glass and follows me around when walking in front of the tank. Im hoping he pairs up soon. There is one female he seems particularly interested in and two more that he tolerates. The last one will be moved out since he doesn’t show any interest in her.

Update on this tank. I moved one of the females out as she was bearing the brunt of all the aggression. Of the remaining three females the male has a "least favorite" but no serious issues as of right now. I will grab new pictures of the male this evening, he has really filled out and his colors are looking amazing; even compared to my last picture earlier this month. I'm not seeing any interest in breeding yet, which I was hoping to observe since the male has grown out.

Thought I was seeing some pre-pairing/breeding behavior. The male is look even better each day and he seemed to be settling on a female. They’ve been spending time together in the corner under driftwood and lackadaisically excavating a pit. Female was turning dark and male was defending the site. Doesn’t look like they have it quite figured out yet though as the male was ignoring her this afternoon and left the area. Hoping to get him paired off and some eggs.IMG_7166.jpegIMG_7170.jpegIMG_7171.jpegIMG_7173.jpegIMG_7174.jpegIMG_7176.jpegIMG_7177.jpeg

And we have eggs! She laid on Wednesday night/Thursday morning and they appear fertile. She’s guarding them very well and rarely leaves the immediate area. The male ventures a little further but always goes right back.

Eggs hatch and have some wigglers. Parents are still doing a great job. I'm hatching some BBS to get ready for when they are free swimming fry. Anyone have any experience breeding Sajica? Anything different or unique compared to other Central Americans?

CONGRATS! This species has quickly become one of favorites, and this thread has definitely contributed to that lol.
Thank you! These guys are great to watch, really good parents. Fry are free swimming and eating baby brine shrimp and Hikari fry starter. Hard to get pictures since they are hanging out in the back corner. Made some DIY prefilter sponges for the FX6 and AC110 while I wait for prefilter sponges from Aquarium Co-Op to arrive. Should do for now unless a fry is really motivated to get itself sucked up.
