I have three baby sajica about 3/4 to an inch an they aren't showing any color yet. There fins are the absolute faintest yellow, I hope this doesn't mean they will all probably be female.. How long will it take before they color and I can sex these guys? How much Smaller do the females end up?

When I raised up a bunch of these guys all their fins were red. It wasn't until they got around 2" that I could really distinguish between the males and females.

How long will it take them to get two inches from 1 inch, I have a 125 gallon if that makes a huge difference. Is it the band on the top of the dorsal indicates female positively? What size does the female top out at? How well would two females do together?

I got 4 of these from Rapps a couple weeks ago that were 1.5". With obviously extremely limited experience I'd say you wont' have to wait all that long. They grow like weeds, and as far as food goes, mine act like miniature oscars. I walk near the tank and they come running to the front to tell me what a bad fish dad I am, and how they're starving to death. If you want a guess based on limited observation, I'd hazard a growth rate at this point of solid 1/2" (maybe a bit more) per month.

My understanding is males tend to be markedly larger than females, the pointed dorsal fin deal. Mine started at the same size, and already 2 are markedly larger. The larger ones seem to have dorsals that are a bit more pointed. The smaller two have the bar on the dorsal you mentioned. I think of them as pint sized personality plus.

Even at this size I can see the personality, I'm in love. I plan on keeping one male out of the three because my tank isn't tough enough to handle a breeding pair. How is the male aggression towards other species minus the breeding rage? Most of my fish a fairly tough but I worry for my Leopard bush fish and rocket gar. They are pretty tough but neither of these guys take too well to too much bullying.

It's difficult for me to say. They don't bother the tetras (red serpae, and red eyes), and the sevs (Rotkeil & Super Red) are about 4x their size, and by mutual consent they seem to leave each other alone. The male sajica will have little squabbles, but nothing major. They're in a 75.

i have a 2" pair in my 55 and just picked up another pair for the 220 the second pair is only 3/4"-1" they are already in bredding dress and trying to get funcky. At the size of yours you should be able to sex them.

can you post any pics???

Here are a couple pictures I couldn't get the third one in a good shot. I am afraid I have three females but their fins haven't even got pointed yet so I don't know. The only one that looks different lacks the horizontal bar on the dorsal like the other two. I think they are too young to sex. What do you guys think?
