Salmonella Scare? IS WATER OK?

We are having a salmonella scare in our public water system.. I REALLY need to top off my tanks and do a w/c.. Should the fish be ok?

I better not have to boil hundreds of gallons of water just to make the tanks stop gurgling!!

test the tap for chlorine/chloramine... if there's chlorine, then there's no salmonella right?

It was ECOLI in the water.. H'rm.. and we have no chorine in the water, ever.. Maybe they added some?

Are you shure you don't mean that they don't add chloramine and not chlorine. I've never heard of a city that didn't use chlorine to keep the water safe.

Chlorine dosn't register on the testing kits.. We do about 500-1000gallons in water changes each day, and have never lost a fish, including wild ones.

I have a test kit for chlorine and chlorimine. It is test strips.

E. coli doesn't hurt fish, it might hurt you though.
