Is it safe to use aquarium salt after a water change? I heard it's not safe for rays or pleco's.

What is the maximum % water change recommended for rays? Is 30% safe?

Anything recommended to be put in the tank after water change?

I know, lots of question! ;-)

Thanks in advance.

I would only add salt if you suspect a Nitrite problem or to aid in healing a wound.

I also just use prime when I do water changes.

This stuff :)

Salt seems to be one of the odd mis understanding with rays....they do not need it unless they are suffering from some specific ailments.

A very valid question.Im curious also. It was alwasys to my unserstanding that salt in small amouts can be very beneficial to the general health of all fishes. Dont know how true that is, but Ive read it in several books. Im new to raykeeping though. I just acquired a new male pup, Motoro. Will post a thread tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing more opinions on this matter guys. Thanks.

good to see another MI ray keeper :)

I went through a phase where I kept salt in all my tanks. Now I would only add it to treat something specific.

salt can help when dissolved fully into the water, but only when situations warrant. it is not a cure all and should not be regularly used. also salt can become pure death if say, you're treating ich in a tank. ich meds + salt = toxin that will destroy your entire tank.
