Thanks for advice on discus i would love to crank temp to 90 but my baby arowanas wont like it too much. 85 with a few airstones and salt is what i was going to do.

do 88 with salt your aro should be fine in that tempt for a week or 2 it shouldnt take more than 10 days to treat it
Up your water changes, your bil was a DA for letting someone watch his fish who knows nothing you are not much better for accepting the job.
Water changes decrease the number of free swimming tomites. Increase the temp to 88F and do daily 50% water changes for abou 5 days. It should clear up without salt or meds.
like you said it decreases the number not eliminate and all it takes is a single 1 left to multiplies into the thousands. ich usually dont survive over 86f and salt is just incase they do. and even then there have been research where ich survives higher than 92f and 5tbs of salt per gallon.
