Salt Aquarium Water Changes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it kinda looks like a big fiberglass tank. i'm six four and the fiberglass tanks are about double the height of me and 10 me's around.

They dont nessisarily do waterchanges, if you dont have a reef, the salt content/calcium and most general water parameteres will stay the same with only minor tweaking needed, except ammonia/nitrate/nitrite/phosphorus, which can be removed with good biofiltration/ and chemical filters (or huge algea growth). Suffice to say, water changes technicaly arnt nessisary if things are done correctly (but its extreamly difficult to do in most systems), but will be a disaster if done wrong.
I think he hit it right on the money :headbang2

kdrun could prolly answer all your questions

And at that point you would just have to top off the tank with freshwater. Remember salt does not evapurate. Plus with a tank as huge as aquariums use it would take something massive to cause a spike in any of the water params...

So if I took a dump in it it would be crazy outta whack?

Yep for sure hard to throw out the params at that kind of volume, something big would have to die (and be forgotten) to do it. Technicaly salt does evaporate... everything does... but just at such a low rate you would never notice... hahaha (yes a completely pointless statement).

No taking a dump in a system like that wouldn't even affect it likely lol, if you "dumped" a body in then yes haha.
