Salt damage?

Apparently, my use of salt in the aquarium when needed is barbaric and I’m posiening my fish according to people on social media.

As I’m told, salt has been scientifically proven to damage fish. So as know one can seem to show me this solid information, i thought I’d post on here and hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Also. Apparently, salt isnt scientifically proven to help fish apart from make them uncomfortable as the salt destroys everything when used. Mainly internal organs.

Please. Someone, give me some solid eveidence. It would be much appreciated.

Hello; Other than as a treatment for such things as ich parasites I do not use salt in freshwater tank.

Salt wouldn’t remove ich parasite. I never use salt during an ich break out.
It will help traveling and introducing the fish to stop the break out before it starts. That’s how I understand it anyways.
I’d personally use an esha exit treatment. Very gentle for more sensitive fish aswell.

Salt isn't used to "remove" the ich parasite, if by remove, you mean cause the parasite to drop off the host. It's used to kill the parasite once it detaches from the host (which is something it will do as part of it's life cycle.)

Used properly, it's a common and highly effective treatment for ich.

I see, I was unaware. I’m far from clued up on the science of what kills what.

Ive always read its ineffective for killing ich.

It’s something I’m currently working on, brushing up my knowlage. This isn’t why I like this group.
