I just moved my little O into a 30 gallon since hes been fighting with the other fish in my bigger tank. in the process though he got really scratched up and is missing a couple scales. I have a container of aquarium salt that says 1tbs for every 5 gallons but it also only says its to treat disease. Would this be an ocassion that it would be a good idea to use it or should I jsut crank up the heat?

Salts burn thus stimulating slimecoat regeneration. If theres no signs of fungal or bacterial growths I wouldn't add salts. Keep up with regular 50% weekly water changes and all should heal up just fine.

^Agreed.

I use one tablespoon of salt per 50 gal instead of one per 5 gal.

Low salt level does nothing to to your fish. I use salt if I need to treat the fish for some sickness. 2-3tbs per 5 gallon.
