Well technically we don't "really" know what is in the mix. Except the fact it is pharmaceutical grade or better(which even the cheap brands state). If all the cheap brands state pretty much the exact same values on the box as the big brands,,, then why are we not all buying the cheap ones???

Doesn't surprise me at all honestly it's like that when it pretty much comes to any kind of good you buy. I bet you didn't know the difference between some Nike shirts and a shirt at Wal-Mart is that the Nike one has a iron on logo stamped on it after it left the Factory. Just like you can buy a Echo 1 M4A1 which comes from the same exact factory but just put in a different box. It's buisness

Same reason why people pay for name brands vs lesser brands. It's how much a particular brand markets their products.

Just look at how many pages of ads Instant Ocean, Red Sea, and Coralife in the aquarium magazines.

If it was me, I would buy Instant Ocean because of the price and experience of using it. I've purchased Tropic Marin and like Instant Ocean because it seems to dissolves much better. Tropic Marin would leave like a white residue in the bucket. Plus buying the Instant Ocean in a bucket is a free bucket. It costs $5 for a 5 gallon bucket at Home Depot and you can never have too many buckets.

Your on an island, so anything that comes into the country will be more expensive than on the mainland. I have always used instant ocean with no problems.

Look at it this way. You have some of the best corals right in your back yard. I cry everytime I have to buy a coral from australia.

It's a good trade off. Pay a little more for imported salt, pay alot less for corals.

Do you mind telling me what you have bought from OZ and what it cost you??? I have always thought very expensive for corals here even if they are in my backyard.

Back to topic,,,,i am now using Red Sea salt,,seems to be mid range in price ($97 for 25kg) and doing 150lt (bout 18%) water changes each fortnight.
Changes i've seen so far are unbelievable,, never had a prob with nitrate before and always thought that was the main reason for water changes but i guess every other element makes a HUGE difference.
New bulbs in my light and water changes my tank looks a million dollars,,corals are booming!!!
