I would only use IO for a fish only setup
Tropic Marin Reef salt is pharmaceutical grade salt and has been tested to be as close as you can get to real salt water. It is expensive though
$90 for a 200 gal bucket

Wow, I don't think I need anything that expensive lol. I have heard good things about it though

Chiclid King, do you use RO and does Fond du Lac tap come from Lake Michigan?

I used Instant Ocean from 94-97' on my 29 gal. reef mostly because it was all the LFS had. I had never used, let alone heard of RO at the time and just used de-chlor in straight tap water. The hard water from Lk Michigan made for awesome coraline and happy corals. I am now in awe that I never had any issues with nusience algae or other water parms, but maybe it was the hard water....

Another flash back for some.
SeaChem 29 tabs in the orange tub for buffer and if you wanted a Skimmer, it was a usually a DIY or a sweet combo known as a Skilter. Total POS but sometimes did the job when tagged teamed with an oversized wet/dry. Live rock looked more like Tufa Rock with a few specks of coraline and some feather dusters.

Yes, Fond du Lac tap comes from Lake Michigan. I use RO water though. Ya the water is pretty hard. I always got a base reading of 13 dkh when I did FW.
