IN FISH PARADISE
this is a really tricky point i guess it do interfere with the osmotic press on fish may cus some stress on fish or may be a loss of some minerals in the body of fish ..

so what every one think about adding salts to the FW tanks ..

salt kind ( table salt , reef , rough salt ) ...

parentage ..

dosage ..

and so !

It depends on the species of fish and the plants and other inhabitants. I know plecos are particularly sensitive to salt but I cannot recall others off the top of my head.

What fish do you have in your tank(s)?

i normally tend to have most cichlids than any other fish ..

may be some others like arowana , bichir , giant gourami ,tinfoils .. etc

but i know that catfish do not like SALTS at all ..

but i don't like plants i love the rocky themes ..

I have been adding salt (1 tablespoon for every 10g) as part of ich treatments on just about every fish you can think of at one time or another over the last 20 years.

including all the suppposedly 'salt sensitive' fish like cories, syno cats, etc etc.

i have yet to encounter a fish that has died/had a problem/stressed yet.

at least at the dosage I am using. I think a lot of it is nothing but myths that got started.

someone had a cory cat. added salt. It died for another reason, but the salt was blamed, next thing you know, the misinformation is everywhere..

its just one of those things..

I added some salt to try and treat ich. I lost 2 fish the next day. All other fish are fine I did a wc and the fish are doing much better. It was a pleco and a tetra that died. I say no to salt. I have used other ich treatments and never lost a fish. But I use salt and 2 die. I added it slowly over the day.

So I have to say no to salt.

i usually don't think about SALT much and never treated fish with it ..

but i was thinking scientifically about the osmotic pressure , of course the tab water doesnot contain that much of salts and minerals that fish needs for their body

so may be there is something lost in the middle

as some freshwater cichlid fish do need salts like the Frontosa ..

so .. ?!

Okay. When it comes to aquarium salt,if you feel you need to use it that is,just stick with the recomendations on the label.I use it for water changes when I have it but when I run out of it it's not something that I have to run out replace very quickly. Some people dont beleive in it and don't use it at all.
