salt problem in freshwater tanks ..

I salt all my fresh water tank, Just dont over do it. I usually stick to 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons, but normally I short it a few just to be sure. After I was first put on to salting, and seen its benifits I wound never not salt my FW tanks. Im not a professional on the subject matter, but what I DO know is that my fish have never been healthier and looked better. I believe salting helps fight desease, speeds up there healing process, and helps maintain there slime coat. I dont know about salting with cats, but I prob wouldnt salt with tetras.

but i was thinking scientifically about the osmotic pressure , of course the tab water doesnot contain that much of salts and minerals that fish needs for their body

I use salt in all my freshwater tanks. Mostly Chichlids and some catfish. I have not had to treat for disease in a long time and wounds heal much faster. I might have just been lucky or gotten better at maintaining water quality over the years but I give salt a lot of the credit. I use API aquarium salt at one table spoon per five gallons. It is just expensive un-iodized rock salt. You can get it cheaper at the supermarket.

You are on the right track with osmotic pressure. With some salt the fish expend less energy trying to keep the water from flooding them. So that also helps reduce stress along with better slime coat, gill function and it helps keep some disease and parasites in check.
