Salt stuck skin... ADVICE?

well first when topping off a tank you should use ro/di water or distilled or treated water not saltwater you'll raise the salinity and stress the fish and cause them to get ich, or perish. When making your saltwater for water changes do it 48 hours before the water change and aerate the water well so all the salt can dissolve and you can test salinity with a refractometer, toss your hydrometer they are worthless.

Ok. Well Salt does not evaporate. So you should only ever add saltwater when you do water changes. When you are topping off due to evaporaton, the salt stays behind. So freshwater is all that is required. If your SG is low you can add saltwater, but make sure it is completely saturated before adding it as grainular salt is not healthy for the inhabitants. If you are having trouble saturating your batch of saltwater, try heating it up. Be sure to cool it back down before adding.

I'm curious what your S.G. is? If you're using a hydrometer the results may be inaccurate if you have so much salt in the tank it's reading is off the chart. Back when I first got started I made the same mistake. I had to remove 3 gallons from my 12 gallon tank then fill it up with fresh water just to get the hydrometer to read again. I HIGHLY recommend buying a refractometer. One of the most imporant tools you will by.
