Hello, Im new here as of today and I thought I'd try this out. I just recieved a 200 gal. aquarium. I was used as a salt water, but I have a fondness for oscars...so I am trying to clean it out and doing some t.l.c. on it. It comes equipted with an Ocianic wet/dry trickle filter, and has all the hoses n such with it. My fish man said it looked like it was hardly used when I got it. There is some white crusty stuff at the water line, and some salt in the hoses, but that is about it. Would y'all worry with getting the salt out, if so how would you go about it?
Thanks a Bunch
Alicia

clean the tank with a lil salt water use a razor blade to take that crust off ... set it up have happy oscars nice buy

salt wont hurt a thing

Where are you in Texas?

Thanks for your help, i figured the salt should be ok...but was not sure if salt tanks have the same as what I put in my fresh. Stupid question maybe! LOL

A long way from you....on the Mexican border....McAllen:(

You still need to do a good cleaning. Remove the obvious salt creeps, and "crust" - usually a result of built up proteins and such. It won't hurt your oscars if there are trace amounts of salt still present, and I do mean TRACE, but do try to remove as much as possible. Clean all the tubings really well, by flushing with hot water, and make sure you cycle the filters out before opperating them for freshwater. Mainly you need to be concerned about removing the possibility of lingering bacteria and fungi, which will spring back to life once the tank is established again. Over all, I'd say you got a great deal, just as a note though, make sure it really was "great", check all the seals, the glass for any cracks - even teeny tiny ones can cause a blow out once water pressure is applied. If it's good to go, then I say good find! Just take your time, and make sure you get it nice and clean, and sterilized first. Have fun, lol.
