Salt VS Fresh

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a 30 gal will limit a lot of what you can do in SW...but I'd give it a shot if have the extra money, because that to me is the only down side with SW

i agree..+patience +dedication.

Put new substrate in, not necessarily crushed coral but I doesn't hurt. $5.

Buy some live rock, not necessarily thirty pounds, just enough for the fish to hide. $50.

Replace your filter media with live rock rubble. $5.

Bucket of salt, hydrometer, test kit. $70.

You don't need fancy lighting unless you want to grow corals. With a 30 gallon and reduced filtration, you can only keep a couple of clowns, couple of gobies, and a couple of damsels. All this for a $130, plus biweekly partial water changes.

All of the nicer sw fish require (tangs, lions, puffers, eels) require at least a hundred gallon tank and a $1,000 in filtration.

I'd be careful saying stuff like that around here. Haha

I've never been particularly interested in salt, but once I have room to set up a couple more tanks and some extra cash, I plan on setting up a small acrylic tank for a mantis shrimp. That's the only salt water creature I really have any intense desire to keep

so untrue.

i think that my freshwater fish are prettier than my saltwater fish. plus the fw tank is easier to maintain, and you can have more fw fish in a tank than you could have of sw fish in the same size tank.

ARE YOU KIDDING!!!!!!! FW FISH LOOK ABSOLOUTLY PLAD COMPARIED TO SW FISH!!!!:irked:

really? I like mantis too, but my passion for small cowfish like the camel cowfish has grew stronger.

hey cheetah, snowflake eel - $14-20, need 30 gallon plus, Camel cowfish - $20-30 need 24 gallon plus. Sharpnose puffer $14-20, need 30 gallon plus, dwarf or fuzzy lionfish, $15-25, need 30 gallon plus. BTW, filtration is simple. You can even do without protien skimmer, just more water changes.
