Glad your rays are ok. I think it is funny how a lot of you are saying no salt now I remember how this use to be the cure for every ray prob.

Never heard any of these salt warnings before.

Any time my rays have open wounds from biting I add salt. Never had a problem...but I also do not ot add crazy amounts to the system.

I use pure water softner solar salt. Maybe the stuff you used had some type of additive in it?

The salt i used is a pond salt that states it is beneficial for fish health as stated in the previous post. I went with this as everyone seem to use something different and there appears to be a lot of confusion about what type of salt and what dosage. Thought i was doing the right thing but i am not so sure now?

Like T1KARMANN said clean water and uv works best for wounds on the rays. Salt next best thing if you don't have a uv but you have to keep in mind all the other healthy fish are being needlessly exposed to the salt. Always good to have a extra tank when treating single fish.

I'm not sure about this but shouldn't you turn the uv off when using salt

I only ask this as I purchased a used marine uv in the past that had been used and when I took it apart it was a mess

If you do need to turn uv and drip off when treating won't this have bad effects on water quality

Vam is right they heal up so fast without adding anything it's not worth messing with anything

Jim how did the cage method work out for you

Hi Richard
Not used it yet. I have left her out. She not getting so much interest from the male now and healing, but slowly. Not eating great yet though.

It normally takes about 1 month for surface bites to heal and as long as 6 months for big chunks out of the disk to start healing well

With surface bites you may get a few changes in spotting on the regrowth

Glad the fish are fine. One of the issues with salt for FW fish is that fish need to be given time to acclimate from freshwater to low saline levels. Slower is better.
