Saltwater Electric eels?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What size will you be upgrading to, for housing a 6"fish?

That pic is possible because those are not electric eels...EEs don't have a dorsal fin...Those are an australasian eel...but I can't remember the species, give me a minute to look it up.

Here we go...those are Anguilla dieffenbachii

PS Toehead, put a ground on the tank, attached to the wall socket. I did with my 30 incher. I also got shocked once...not fun. I do know several other people who have been shocked with no serious affects ... anyone else ever been hit?

i havent yet, all equipment plugged into powerstrips with breakers

i'll sell him before he gets too big.
I hate when folks say that! Where do you expect to sell him to? If you can't house it, leave it in the ocean or where ever it came from. Then the poor thing is stuck in your small tank for life & dies a slow, cramped death.

actually i got contacts at the zoo. is 3200 gallons too small and cramped?!

Zoos generally don't want our overgrown pets, connections not withstanding. Although an EE is rare enough to find a home for fairly easily...

How can you be so sure they will take it? They happen to have an empty 3200g tank available for this fish when you're done with it? Hard to believe... since it cannot have any tankmates.

Im keeping 15 natives and a large crawfish with it. no problems. the eel rests his head on the snails and the natives hang around him all the time. I understand they can be eaten at any time but for now, they are fine. The zoo keeps make tanks in the back for injuries, breeding and extra fish. he can go back there until they rearrang the viewing tanks to make room.

As long as you ar absolutely positive they can take him when you're done with him. Too late now--it sounds like you already have him in your posession.
