Saltwater fish in Freshwater

If no one ever try's how will we ever know? How did we ever find out fish could go in an aquarium? is that in humane maybe you shouldn't keep fish leave then in there natural enviroments. Or should we just cut off there heads?

Come on! apples and oranges. Keeping fish, in a home, ALIVE. Can in no way be compared to doing this! Are you crazy? That is something WE don't need to find out. just cause you wonder about something doesn't mean you do it. I have always wondered what **** tastes like....so if anyone has tried it could you let me know how it was so i can finally get some sleep at night!

Im a down to earth animal person and I am not a nut though. I have the same feelings on all of it and its pretty simple.

Animals (including fish) should not suffer at the hands of humans and we should not allow them to suffer. Simple as that. Why I am a huge pusher of fishless cyles on tanks. If you use fish, I think you owe it to the fish, feeders or not to do pwc and make it as comfortable as you can for them.

I agree that tossing them into a freshwater pond "just to see" and allowing them to suffer was bad practice Bait or not. Bait is using them to get fish that are food to eat so it is different.

Just tossing them in to suffer for nothing but entertainment and no real use is a waste.

I have to agree hurting fish for no reason is just plain stupid but these were little kids trying somthing out? That is how our whole hobby came about. through trial and error. Just Because you don't have to do doesn't mean someone eles didn't do it for you. Thats what we do we put fish together that don't belong together africans, with south americans, and some from Indonesia to see if they get along and if the tank looks good how many of these fish die from this experiment. I here it all the time on this site is that not right or is that educating the rest of us from doing it. these were little kids experimenting with somthing i say its great and i look forward to the marine biologists of tommorow. Some times this web site is so narrow minded, we all keep our pets in cages us fish keepers and tell our selves they are happy cause we made them happy by making there surroundings more like there natural habitats. Come on there still little monkeys in cages that we are experamenting with and if you all can't see that then you should take your blinders off and wake up.

Still don't agree apples and oranges! Keeping fish that are diff from each other, is sooooooo far from putting it in a foreign habitat. Now you are just trying to win a debate, feel how you want. It was wrong and they should have just been used them for bait if that was the aim.

I still disagree. Sure people "try" fish out keeping them together but if it does not work out it is still pretty much like nature. In the wild fish eat fish, they fight and chase each other etc. Sure it happens more so in a smaller space and much less water.

Yes there is trial and error. It was obvious those fish would not make it and even your first post it was clear you didnt think they would and just were "curious" how long they would.

The fish from saltwater to freshwater to me is like tossing a dog in a smoke filled house and trapping it in there just to see how long it can breathe the toxic air and survive. Hey maybe it can adapt and learn to breathe smoke! Oh wow it didnt make it through the night, cool, we learned something. Such a waste!

If you ask me those children should of been taught a lesson in being cruel to animals (fish). If it was my daughter I would of made her take them back out and tell her she needs to respect living animals. Either use them for bait to catch a fish for food instead of just torture them and waste their life and torture them in the process.

I am not narrow minded. I often think about my fish (the pictus I keep are plucked from rivers) and how their lives have changed. I do not feel I am experimenting with them either.

They are my pets, in a large tank and I watch their water close and make sure as well as I can their water is safe. I take CARE of them. I don't try "new" things with them like seeing how much salt they can stand. I dont try to see how high I can get my ammonia and see if they can tolerate it,

I provide them a home and take the best care I can. Just like a dog or a cat.

I think you are narrow minded to stand up for the senseless torture of an animal just to see how long it could live in "poison". I dont care if it is a just a small bait fish. Those fish hurt as they died and you 1) thought it was a cute trial and error show to watch 2) wasted a perfectly good animal for what? a thrill? 3) showed you have no respect for the creature.

That is just how I look at it. I am not perfect but I tell you what I have a love for all animals big and small and I raise my daughter the same. All animals have a place in life. Even small bait fish. They are used for bait to catch fish to consume. The animal is not wasted. It is not the best to shove a hook through it's mouth to toss out in the water but in the end it has a good use.

Feeder fish are of good use they allow other fish to live. It is how nature works.

A fish going from saltwater to freshwater for a show is not nature or normal.

If they want to be biologists of tomorrow that is awesome. The reason to go into the field is the big #1 respecting life and being careful with it as you learn to understand it and help it along. Dont you think?

The guy told us it was the children that did it.Perhaps you should stop flaming. For all we know when he found what the children had done several hours had gone by, already, and he was surprised that the fish were alive.. and perhaps they could well be alive both in a sw as in a Fw environment.

The "Flaming" Isn't towards cunuksfan....who posted this thread. And no one is flaming, just two diff oppinions, no name calling. Just two strong standpoints. The debate was between myself and courtneem, with corvette..... did you read the whole thread? When did the flaming start? This "debate" is a moot point now, there was no flaming

to state the truth i like hearing others stand points and i'm not offended at all every one is diffrent and thats what makes this forum great i'll admit some times i get frustrated with people jumping on others for everything they do ( you put an arrowana in a 200 gallon you will need at least a 1000 gallon in a week ) and all they have is a 20 gallon planted tank???? you could say i like the underdog but i like the disscusion it good, and people learn. WE should be faster at praising and slower at critisizing our friends.. thats my 2 cents...
