oh ya i forgot to mention the common snook. Found in the southern states, they are extremely smart and remind me of a baramundi(sp?). The snook can easily switch between seawater and fresh. I don't know about the legality about possessing one in kalifornia, but I'd check it out.

Bettas, angelfish, i know you said you dont want african cichlids but there's a wide array of them so look around. gouramis and discus have saltwater characteristics. Theres a discus called an AquaGreen Scribble Discus, hes very neat looking

common snook requires salt (although i have heard of ones that r full fresh) n grows a lil too big . but ive kept a swordspine snook before which was fully fresh and doesnt get too big. so ya once again, thanks for ur suggestion. perhaps i shouldve posted a list of the ones that i already have kept xD anyway, ur suggestion r definitely in the right direction : )

yes lotsa fish have fins and tails :P haha ya i get what you mean though, some looks so vibrant that could be mistaken as sw fish. but just not the general type of fish im looking for.

im looking for "game fish" type , that you would expect in an estuary , but its actually freshwater . o.O sorta hard to explain...... its like, im not looking for how ornate a fish is.... but... hard to explain xD

now if u can find a killifish that grows to 20" and doesnt end up looking like a peaceful carp :P hehe freshwater needle fish ( u mean the asian ones with the black stripe) , hmmm getting closer but too common , and those doesnt look "cool " enuf xD unless theres a freshwater one that is silvery n cool like tis one ( of course, not as big, and this one is fully salt)

okay ^^;; thanks for the suggestion. I dont think keepin salmonoid in california is legal? ._.except if u r a hatchery.... and ur pic shows one that IS saltwater with cods on the bottom xD.... i appreciate ur effort though.

Not sure about the legal aspect, but the Atlantic salmon (many species) are tolerant of both fresh and salt.

I'm only kidding about keeping it- or am I? :)
