saltwater n00b.

Not trying to go against what you are saying you are obviously very knowledgeable when it comes to saltwater and I appreciate the help but I've been looking on a lot of random forums and a lot of random people who are setting up saltwater tanks for the first time use the Fluval edge and have no problems. Not about to jump right into it but people seem to have a good success rate with these tanks.

4AM and instead of sleeping what about I doing? researching stuff on aquariums....addicting hobby lol

Not saying it can't be done with the Edge. I just don't think that is an ideal tank for saltwater. Since you haven't bought it yet, I was suggesting alternatives that are better options, but the Edge may work for you.

Thanks Otherone. I appreciate the compliment. My opinion definitely is the law when it comes to the hobby. People have all sorts of things that they do and are successful. In no way do I think people should just take my advice and do it, but research and get multiple opinions and see what they think. The problem with many peoples opinions is that they throw it out there like it's fact because it worked for them, but if you found 10 more people doing what they do 8 are saying it doesn't work. For people just getting into saltwater I recommend the safest and best way to do things to be successful. Taking risks will only lead to frustration and expense that can be avoided. I have had many trials in the hobby and I wish I would have been better prepared for some of them. There is a reason that turnover in the hobby is so high, people fail miserably at first and a lot of times give up right them. If I can help people avoid that or minimize the chance of that happening I am happy.

Enough with my rant, lol. Let us know what you decide and how it goes!

I apologize I wasn't trying to come off like I know everything because I know nothing. You have been nothing but helpful and I appreciate every word of advice you have given me. I am not trying to become one of the many who drop a ton of money into a saltwater tank only to have it crash within a couple months and give up. I don't plan on making ANY purchases for at least a couple of months. I'm an inpatient 22 year old but I know I need to do it once and do it right so I'm gonna stop myself from jumping into anything before I know I am 100% capable of owning and keeping up with a salt tank and know what the hell I'm doing.

Don't worry. I wasn't offended. I think you have a good plan and will be much more successful than most when you do take the plunge.

Don't use Aquacon for anything. There is CON in the name for a reason. They are a very sketchy business and their recommendations for minimum tank size are way off. Stay away and continue to look at Liveaquaria.com like you have.

Also, that picture isn't an Emperor.

so the blue white and black stripped angel in the second pic isnt an emperor?? what is it then??

It's a young Blue face Angel, however like mentioned it could be un accurate as numerous angelfish Koran, Blue Face, Emperor....have the same or nearly the same color pattern...
