which specific products have you been using?

i use seachem 'reef carbonate' (carbonate alk) 'reef complete' (calcium) and 'reef plus' (vit & amino acid) about once a week and i don't have those kinds of problems

Seachem Reef Advantage Calcium and Seachem Reef Builder for my 2 part Calcium/Alkalinity dosing

Seachem Reef Advantage Magnesium to get my mag up

I also use Reef Plus but I don't see it as being a necessary additive until I get my Calcium and Alkalinty balanced

Do you use Seachem test kits? and if so what are your alk and calc readings?

I'm still testing on a daily basis trying to figure out the dosing schedule I need to follow to keep alk and calc balanced. Problem is that the levels fluctuate so much I can't get them to balance out. I'm thinking I might just need to get my magnesium level up higher so my alk won't continue to drop so dramatically every day.

what are the reading's and the fluctuations? And, what is the dosing schedule? Product your using to dose? and how often you doing water changes and what salt mix are you using?

Kinda all over the place, but my target dkh is 9.5 and target calcium is 420.

When I dose alk I get it up to 9.52 and by the next day it has dropped significantly, sometimes down to as low as 8.12.

My calcium stays more constant, but the problem is when I get it up to the level I want my alk drops, so I have to dose more alk, which then lowers the calcium level pretty dramatically.

My magnesium is reading 1350, but my target is 1470-1500.

I dose mag and calc in the morning and alk in the late afternoon/night. I don't have set quantities of doses cuz I'm still trying to get a calc/alk balance.

I'm using all Seachem products....Reef Builder for alk, Reef Advantage Calcium for calc, Reef Advantage Magnesium, and Reef plus. I'm doing a 10% water change weekly using Seachem Reef salt.

I'm in that range right now, so maybe I'm good? I do have coraline growing. It just doesn't seem normal for the alk to drop over 1 DKH in just a day. I'm really pushing the limits of the maximum recommended dosage for these supplements and it seems like it might stress the corals when I dose. Do you think maybe the Seachem products have more extreme requirements to achieve a balanced environment?
