Saltwater Stingrays?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
California Round Rays and Cortez are very hardy in the tank. No harder to keep than fw rays and water temps are less than fw so save on electric

I wouldnt say that the round or other wise known as the calaforna sting ray is easy none of them really are easy to keep but once acclimated to your tank and are eating you shoudnt have maney problems with them just remember to keep up with water changes i do 5 gallons a week and maintains water perfictly just remember that a small water change is done ofen is just as good as a large on less offen

where a 150 is fine for a FW ray, you should have MUCH bigger for a saltwater ray, even one that is the same size as a FW ray, they need much more space and are harder to care for.

I don't think anyone said 150 gal for a FW ray. There are several smaller species of marine stingray that only need 150 or so for their entire life.

Why do people state the gallons of a tank? Could be 48" deep for all i know, so how can i help? But honestly unless that tanks only 10" deep theres only a very limited amount of rays that you can keep. I feel the best home saltwater ray is the blue spotted stingray. Although needing a large maybe 360 gallon wide aquarium they are great rays to keep and get on fairly well with the smaller requim sharks. But obviously you wll need a much larger than 360 to keep any requim shark. By the way could someone tell me the size of tank you would need for a smoothhound shark? Only i saw some at the sealife centre and they look really cool and dont get to big.

For smoothhounds id say no smaller than 1200-1500 gallons. Im building my shark pool right now with smoothhounds in mind. Check out my thread New Shark Pool. The smoothhounds im interested in, Atlantic smoothhounds or smooth dogfish, get to be 4-4.5 feet in length, for females.

i have talked to a few people with California rays and said they were very easy to care for, mine is almost 8" across and is eating like mad and is very friendly and its in a 60" round pool for now
