salvini experiences

I have not had a Sal, but would advise that you get a small one now so your fish can grow up together. Adding one later may not work out.

I have a big female in 50Gs with a blue acara, convict, firemouth, and an archer fish. Got her when she was tiny, now about 5", almost as big as the archer fish. She's claimed a territory and has customised it to her liking, though at every water change I fill in the enormous pit she digs down to the glass. For the most part, she leaves the other fish alone and the other fish stay out of her way. She goes where she pleases often wandering through the other fish's territory but is rarely aggressive to them and when she is it's only to tell them to get move it. I've seen a salvini-shaped bite out of the convict's dorsal fin extension a couple times, but he needs to be put in his place.

My recommendation is to get a small female and let her grow up in the tank.
There may be a few scuffles as she works her way up the pecking order, but once she establishes her territory she should be content.

I think you guys have sold me on getting a sal, but should I wait until my swordtails die?
