Salvini or Angelfish or ? or None

My stock and set up is in my signature, I was just wondering if I could add anything and would like to know your opinions. The green terrors are probably 3" and 4" while the silver dollars are around 4" and they all get along well(no fin nipping). Pretty peaceful right now with the expected "harassment" from time to time by the male gt towards the female.

I am open to any suggestions and advice :)

I have a large angelfish that I often use to settle new fish in qt. She's about 6 years old and about 6" around and single large cichlids have all done well with her, but this has always been in a qt situation mostly one on one with very shy new fish. I wouldn't think of putting her in an established tank with 2 gt's, but that's just my opinion. I'm sure there's always the exception to the rule, but gt's would typically be too rough on angel.

The salvini might work, but it might not either. I attempted to introduce a salvini to a community with a gt and jd (90 gallon) and within 2 weeks the salvini stopped eating altogether from harassment from both fish. This was after a 2 week stop in the same qt tank.

IMO if you want to house the current fish in the 75 for life, I think you're pretty well stocked, but I'm a light stocker generally speaking. If the saums pair up, they'll claim the tank. If you have 2 males, you might eventually have to remove the subdominant fish. They grow slowly, but can really turn psycho after 6" or so

Wow, amazing! I didn't expect to receive such a great response right off the bat! Well, considering your excellent insight based on your experience, I might have to resist the urge of adding another fish. The saums are already paired up; I started with 5 saums and 5 silver dollars. The same pair attempted eggs twice while there were still 5 of them so I was confident that they were sticking with each other(so I removed the rest). I thought that 5 silver dollars were too much since they hogged all the food! I had to drop in a lot more extra food in order for the saums to get a bite(so I removed 3, well 2, I kept 3 but one didn't make it through the move). :(

I am really tempted though to add the salvini to "bring out" the orange of the gold saums and maybe the red in the silver dollars. I'm only afraid of any damage that may occur due to my selfish reasons. Considering the size of the GTs right now, would adding the salvini be safer after a few more months or would it be a better idea to let them grow up together? I'd appreciate anyone's 2 cents! :) Thank you!
 
I wouldn't add any more fish to that setup. They have a while to grow but it will seem small as they get to adulthood.
 
I think in all likelihood the addition of a salvini will only bring trouble. You've got a nice pair of GTs, I'd just leave it at that and focus on breeding them.
 
Oh i did not know what tank size you had. I voted for other. But I should have read the thread first. That sounds like a heavy stock. Do not add anything else. if you got rid of one of the terrors you could get a few fire mouth.

Yeah, I completely forgot that my current stock is probably pushing it already once they are full size! I'm just having an urge I guess :) I completely agree with you!

I appreciate the compliment :D The fish are all getting well together right now and the saums have attempted fries(frys? lol) 3 times now. You're right, the salvini might just mess everything up.

It will be a heavy stock, yes. Looks pretty empty right now though, hahaha. Once they get bigger, I'll probably add a sump on there :) or possibly upgrade :o and make the 75g the sump!

I have 2 female salvini's in my tank and they are absolutely fine. they stand upto the red devil and keep their own but none of my fish really fight, they just chase a bit. My salvinis play really well but my tank is way bigger than 75 (225) so i suppose in that size of a tank althought it COULD work, there is a pretty high chance that you would just end up with a blood bath.

as stated above, if breeding is your number one interest then tankmates only really cause problems. A big pair of GT's in a tank would be stunning and from what I see you have great potential in those guys.
Salvinis can be horrors and they can get on well long term but it depends on the fish and are you really willing to lose all your stock ?
