Are electric blue jd's hard to come by? That would be the jd that i would get. And can i do a pair of them in a 55gal?

Aquabid.com they usually is always some Ebjds up there. Yes you can but it will be tight might be better in a 75 for the pair.

I am in the process of attempting to get a 180gal off a buddy of mine that is just sitting at his house. So the 55 will just be a temporary home for now.

For that size of tank you could get a breeding pair of Salvini or an individual beast male JD.... its a tough choice, only you would know.

Had duos of both, both in 55's. The Jacks were WAAAYYY more skittish. Always hiding. Saw the male like once a week, and when he saw me he would nearly bash his brains out hitting the glass. Got rid of them. Still have the Sals. Cool fish, great colors, go for Sals. I see EBJDs often in most of the LFS around my area. I don't think they are that hard to come by. A bit pricey for a fish that is reported to be a weak thriver. IDK +1 for Sals here.

Why not do one of each - a 55 gal should be bug enough to handle one of each.

I have owned both and found them to be compatible for a cichlid community tank.

JMO of course.

I say a salvini and a EBJD are just as skittish as a JD EBJD hide a lot.
