I wanted a jag, but can't hope to house it any time soon. So I got six salvini cichlids, hoping to get a pair. If I can pair them off, my plan is to keep two in a 40gal breeder tank. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

They can be rough on each other.I would keep many places to hide.have divider ready in case things go bad.maybe some fast target fish.SD work for me, get 3

Be prepared to divide, I had a pair for no more than two weeks and the male out of no where went homicidal and killed the female over night. Every thing seemed to be just fine then woke up to find her beat to death. Both were about 5 inches long. That was just last month.

Only going to keep two if any pair up, if not I will probably rehome all of them. I think a 40gal breeder will be adequate for two fish, and if not I have an excuse to get a new tank.

I will rehome if it gets to that point, right now they are very laid back, hopefully this will be the norm.

You shouldn't have any trouble getting you have 3 males and 2 females put in lots of spawning sites and feed good with lots of water changes and you will have success good luck

I too have 6 F1 salvini and plan on breeding them. I have a 40 gallon but its a 40 long 48x12 1/2x13 1/2. Thought the length would help out a lil more.

F1 cool! I would love to see some pics of those. Mine are just lfs buys, but they had great color and I was looking for some smaller ca cichlids to keep(I really want jags but don't have the space). I would go with the long tank, but it is a space issue. I already have 55x2,36,20,10, and 2 gal betta tank. I am just running out of room for tanks until I can convert my garage into a tank room.
