i have a empty 37 an i always loved seeing the guys in the pet store an was wondering if i could have one in my 37 an if possible could there be any tank mates or not.

It would be a little cramped eventually, but Id say a female would work with some tetras or other small dithers for a while. Males can get up to 8 inches so that wouldnt work.

Females usually have more red on the belly and the black blotch and the black spot on the Operculum.

thats what i hope to get since im only going to buy 1 of them. but there isnt anything else i can put with the sal hoping i nail a female?

would 1 salvini an a pictus catfish be good? we have a pictus in another tank but im not sure how they would match in with a salvini

theyd probably fight. maybe a very small growing pleco. if the pictus is bigger than the sal, it will probably mess with it and vice versa in such cramped quarters.

A 37g (30 x 12 x 22 roughly) just isnt a good size for multiple fish that get 6+ inches.

Salvini's can be very territorial and are pugnacious.

I agree that smaller plecos would work.. Or you could go firemouth cichlid and he'd/she'd have a tank for life with the 37... Also picky with tankmates..

Firemouths get too big to go with a salvini in a 37 gallon tank. Ive seen them 8+ inches before, total length.

Id say NO to any other cichlid in a 37 if you go with a sal.
