I would love to see an 11" salvini, I had a 8" (tl) male that was 3 years old but my flowerhorn killed him

me too, that would be an awesome sight. :headbang2

looks female.
like previously stated, get a male and their colors look amazing.
my pair are sweet as can be to each other but pretty aggresive to anything that gets too close no matter how big it is.

The big 11 inch sal... I have never seen such a monstrous looking sal in my life. It was a blue variant, extremely deep bodied and had a MASSIVE lower jaw... from a distance it almost looked like a trimac. The fish was housed with a massive midas, ~foot long urophthalmus, a few smaller midas, and an assortment of some good sized (5-6 inch) male cons, most with their little tiny female following them around. The salvini was the undisputed king of the tank, even the big midas wouldn't tangle with him, but lowered his dorsal and let the salvini pass by whenever. The owner said that the salvini was already sold, so I couldn't buy it :(

My male was a true beast at 8.5 inches, I had him since he was ~1.5 inches. Bought him from petsmart (off all places, it had just opened, and I got him along with a P. Schomburgkii) and threw him in a 10g with the leaffish. Soon enough, he outgrew the leaffish and so at about 3.5 inches he went into the 55 with a 7 inch johanna pike. The johanna was definately the dominant of the 2, and they grew together until the salvini was about 6 inches and the pike about 12. At that point, the salvini began fighting back and took half of the tank for himself. Once the sal hit 6.5 inches and started putting weight on, he was thrashing the pike around, and I soon had to sell the pike. He never really tolerated anything else except a large female salvini (5 inches) and a few assorted bottom dwellers (footlong clarias, 8 inch zungaro, 12 inch lapradii and a 17 inch symbranchid eel), and even then, the clarias took an asswhooping once in a while when the salvini was in a bad mood.
