Thanks for sharing. Hopefully there are enough territiories to avoid disputes

I have a jd and oscar together about 5 months now no problem but in a 150. Shouldn't be to much of a problem.

You'll need a bigger tank, no matter what.
Sounds like the Salvini is the favored winner. I don't really know. Just about every aquarium book I've read calls Jack Dempsey's "pugnacious and intolerant, most be kept alone" or something along those lines. It seems like they ALWAYS use "pugnacious" even though they are relatively unaggressive. Probably because the authors have never kept one, and go by what they read in other aquarium books...

In an interesting twist , when my salvini and jack dempsey start to go at it my firemouth jumps in and tries to help the salvini. I think the firemouth may have figured out a way to survive and maybe help control the aggression in the tank

ive had a 9 inch JD that nearly killed a RD and GT his size... was intolerant of any fish in the tank and after trading in the GT and RD the JD made a 11-12 inch Jaguar jump out of the water. I think very few JD's act in this manner but i suspect it is where they get the rep from.

I eventually got rid of the JD... he hated all fish and hated me... he hid in a log at all times unless i fed him and some days wouldnt even come out for that... he acted like i was going to kill him or something. i got tired of watching an "empty" fish tank.

idk how it would fair againt a salvini ive never owned one

it all depends on the individual fish, my oscar ripped a male gt an inch smaller than him to shreds, for all you know they could decide to breed and kill everyone else

My two males are very assertive too but whenever I have introduced new tank-mates they generally accept them but keep them in check.

My larger male 9 inch once drove a Jaguar out of the tank but the Jag was slightly smaller at 7 inch. He flipped out.

I don't know if many people have seen a JD flip out but a lot of people would be surprised at the kind of damage they can do. My tank was just destroyed I had to landscape it again.

It depends on the temperament of the fish really, I've not seen many Salvini's but I have seen some mean Jack Dempsey's. I have seen a few in LFS's that if you walk up to the tank, they freak and go nuts banging the glass. I'd really consider getting a bigger tank though, that's a lot of fish in a 4 foot tank. They're probably testing things now, but there will come a day you'll wake up or come home to a massacre in that tank.

IMO in most cases if it is a male against a male and they are about the same size, the salvini will rule the tank. By the way, a male salvini can get around the same size as a jack dempsey.

both mature im saying sal
