Hi,
I was in the Richmond district of San Francisco a few days ago, and I found a fish store on Clement. Curious to see their selection, I went in and was horrified at the condition of their specimens. On the bottom level they were selling smallish arowanas in tanks under 5 gallons. The fish barely had room to turn around. They possessed a common stingray in a aquarium that looked too shallow, as it kept trying to slide up the walls as if trying to escape. All of the fish, whether in the right size tanks or not, looked in very shabby shape.

On the top level, arranged in catwalk-like upper level, they kept fish such as the African lungfish, pleco, archerfish, arowana, flowerhorns, and many more similarly sized fish in tanks LESS THAN ONE GALLON. These fish were in terrible condition as well. I would have taken pics, but there were signs posted banning pictures, which should raise eyebrows. And with multiple employees around the store, I couldn't have done it in secret. Any MFK members in SF should look at this store and see if they come to the same conclusions I do. I'll go back and try to take pictures discreetly soon. If anybody does find this store to be questionable, reply to this post ASAP. Thanks for your help!

the address is 425 Clement

I understand your frustration. It's tough and honestly you should notify the proper authorities i.e. animal control/fish and game whatever to investigate. Otherwise you are asking for trouble or just wasting time with this thread. Short of stirring up emotions and or potentially being arrested I'm not sure what an internet thread is intended to do.

Remember, it's their property and you aren't a cop. If they have signs posted saying no photos and you do anyway and post them on the internet after acknowledging that they have said not to, they may call the police to have you cited for trespassing or worse. I'm upset seeing dogs kept in aquariums at some pet stores that are so small they can't turn around either, but short of notifying the proper authorities, you are asking for trouble.
