yeah well Frank weakly agreed with you. i just can't tell. When I count the rays, examine the scutes, look at the angle of the head, and finally the color of life I can put it firmly in the compressus group, but not the species. It looks like a marginatus, but it doesn't have the extensions on the 3rd and 4th dorsal/anal fin rays. I've been informed that these extensions are present from juvenile age (2-3") on. I'm completely baffled. His body looks like a compressus, and his color of life looks like a compressus, but frank said it looked more like a marginatus.... I could go on and on, but basically I just have to wait til it grows out. I've been calling the fish "Serrasalmus sp. Darwin," and "Serrasalmus cooperi" (my last name is cooper). Yeah the scutes rule sanchezi out, and the head is more rounded on the chezi.
