I'm posting this because of all the comments left by folks about the sand in my tanks. It is Crayola play sand purchased from walmart for around $7 a bag. We have one bag in our 60 gal and two in our 100 gal. They carry red, blue, green, and purple around here. Wish they had black.
Anyhow, we have been using it for about a year, every since we started with our fish fetish. We didn't wash it first, yes I know we should've. We haven't had any ill effects from the sand. The fish seem to love it. They play in it a lot. Rubbing their bodies along it, moving it where they want it by spitting it around. And our female cichlid will sit on the bottom and shake her body, sending out a colorful sand cloud behind her. Now that's cool to watch. I'll try to catch her doing it on cam, but you know how fish are, could be awhile.
My live plants have rooted great as well.
Okay, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
